Abstract:

During an investigation of the aqueous ceri sulfate dosimeter, it became necessary to determine cerous ion concentrations below 10-to the minus 5th power gram ion per liter in the presence of about 10-.0001 gram ion per liter of ceric ion. Although no suitable method could be found in the literature, the reported fluorescence of CeIII solutions suggested the development of a fluorometric technique. The technique developed, while unsuitable for dosimetry, does provide a method for the determination of a range of various ion concentrations, either in the absence or presence of ceric ion, not covered by any other analytical technique.
