An electronic device was developed that can accurately detect and record the probing, penetration, engorging, and withdrawal of a mosquito in relation to its host. Each act is distinct and can be separately recognized in the recording of a single mosquito bite. The chart recordings were correlated with the physiological events taking place within the mosquito during engorgement and salivation. It may be possible to quantify the apparatus in terms of the actual number of mosquitoes biting simultaneously. Author
