This report describes the design, fabrication, test and operation of a system of electro-optical instrumentation for recording by electronic and photographic means, parameters of cloud-to-ground lightning strokes. A complete description is given of the instrumentation, test results and field operations resulting from this program. After field tests in the spring and summer of 1964, the instrumentation was shipped to Kissimmee, Florida and was set up to obtain photographs of lightning. The Florida field experiment was conducted in cooperation with the Air Force Hyperbolic Direction Finding Network which was prepared to record the sferics produced by the lightning strokes being photographed. Due to an unusual period of low incidence of thunderstorm activity, no photographs were obtained by the instrumentation in Florida while it was being operated by Foundation personnel. Author
