Abstract:

An analysis based on dispersion-relation techniques is applied to experimental data for K-p elastic scattering. Particular reference is made to the force of longest range due to the exchange of low-mass pion pairs with isospin I0. The effect of this exchange force can be calculated in terms of only one unknown parameter lambda which may essentially be chosen to be a linear combination of the K-pion scattering lengths. The other forces of shorter range are described by further undetermined parameters. The K-p differential cross section is calculated in terms of these parameters and a minimization procedure is used to obtain a fit to the experimental data. A good fit is obtained for a well-defined set of values of the parameters. In particular, lambda is well determined. A sum rule for K pion scattering is used to calculate a further relation between the K-pion scattering lengths so that the value of each of these is obtained. Author
