ENERGY TRANSFER IN SILICATE GLASS COACTIVATED WITH CERIUM AND YTTERBIUM

In a study of the optical properties of coactivated luminescent glasses, transfer of energy from UO22 to Nd31 and from Ce3 to Nd32 has been observed and it has been shown that for both of these ion pairs this energy interchange is partly achieved by radiationless transfer mechanisms. In this paper the transfer of energy from Ce3 to Yb3 in a lithium-magnesium- alumino silicate glass host matrix is reported and discussed.
