Several aspects of electrochemical energy conversion were investigated. A theoretical analysis of electrochemical energy conversion devices was developed and checked by experimental measurements. The results show that performance characteristics of a cell can be predicted from the polarization curves of the individual electrodes. The design and performance of a precise and versatile automatic polarization apparatus is described. This device records polarization results directly on semilogarithmic paper. High current palladium-hydrogen diffusion electrodes can be achieved by oxidation pretreatment. An equation for hydrogen diffusion in betapalladium was determined. Author
