A summary is given of recent metallurgical studies of materials for guns which have been directed toward developing high-strength materials to minimize the weight of artillery weapons. Evaluations of many promising, high-strength candidate materials including ultra highstrength steels, titanium alloys, aluminum alloys, and reinforced plastics are presented.
