Abstract:

An investigation was made of materials and fabricating techniques capable of producing a precision volumetric resistor composed of inorganic materials. Performance results indicated these resistors are stable to voltage, temperature, moisture and other test environments. The high temperature deposition of carbon into a porous ceramic has been found to produce resistors with excellent properties. This method however, is useful for only very low range resistors 2.7 ohms to 50 ohms because it results in a large negative temperature coefficient of resistance when it is used to produce high resistance values. Resistors based on palladium dispersed in a ceramic matrix have been found to be satisfactory and cover the resistance range of 100 ohms to 100,000 ohms.
