The objective of the work described is to investigate the system requirements and to provide the design parameters for a highly transportable communications satellite ground station. The study takes into account the size, weight, complexity, ready mobility, and reliability of the ground station for use with communications satellites at ranges up to, and including, the range of synchronous satellites. Included in the study are the design parameters of the antennas, the receiving and transmitting apparatus, and the acquisition, tracking and control system. In addition, optimum modulation methods for this application have been investigated.
