A method has been developed for classifying tropical vegetation into five visually recognizable divisions in accordance with the shape characteristics of each division. The real purpose of such a classification system is to allow the observer to roughly measure the variety of growths that may be encountered in tropical regions in relation to communication problems. It remains in the next step to develop units of numerical measure for each of these classifications so that the effects of vegetation can be numerically related to propagation prediction techniques. In the course of developing instrumentation suitable for the performance of the field measurements under extreme environmental conditions, it was necessary to develop and fabricate several special purpose items. This report presents some of the details of these special items of equipment. Author
