The objective of the study was to further the understanding of the basic energy transfer processes which occur in chemical reactions between atoms, molecules, and free radical species by the infrared chemilluminescence mechanism. Background information and optical emission spectra are presented for various oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen reaction species. A strong infrared emission in the region of 2.7 microns through 3.0 microns was observed from the reaction of nitrogen atoms with nitrogen dioxide. Author
