Abstract:

This report has two purposes primarily it presents a general climatology for the Cape Kennedy-Merritt Island area of those weather elements pertinent to the use of a mixture of liquid fluorine and liquid oxygen, FLOX and secondly, it outlines questions regarding the behavior of fluorine in the atmosphere. The physical and chemical properties of fluorine and its pertinent compounds are outlined. Some of the problems that could arise should fluorine be introduced into the atmosphere are discussed and recommendations are offered toward the possible solution of these problems. The general nature of the diffusion of a gas in the atmosphere is discussed briefly and a climatology pertinent to this problem is presented. Also, in the absence of weather observations from Merritt Island, some speculations on possible differences in the weather on Cape Kennedy and on Merritt Island are given.
