Abstract:
This report describes Phase I of a continuing research program intended to provide data related to those aspects of tactical decision-making behavior that can be trained. The study included the delineation of the organization and responsibilities of AAW and ASW personnel as well as the development of ACADIA - a Taxonomy of Tactical Decision Tasks. Several behavioral traits are discussed in regard to their applicability to the derivation of generalized behavioral criteria. Also discussed is a possible technique for rating or scoring decision responses in terms of various operational criteria. An experiment was conducted in which the subject was required to implement a course of action based on his reaction to the relationship between his own and an enemys probability of success, both of which increased as a function of time. The results disclosed several characteristics of human decision-making behavior relevant to the design and utilization of decision-making trainers. Author
