Abstract:
The advent of very stable and accurate frequency sources and the development of means for improving receiver sensitivity make attractive the use of such devices as an aid to navigation and guidance in many astronautical missions. This paper reviews the application of Doppler principles and techniques to operations of earth satellites in terrestrial space, in the areas of orbit determination and use as a navaid. A radio navigation aid for lunar and interplanetary missions which employs precision frequency sources and fixed antenna beams is described. A configuration for the navaid utilizing earth and planetary satellites is proposed. Author
