Die welding during drawing of annealed piano wire was alleviated by pickling the wire in a dilute nitric acid solution and using molybdenum disulfide as the lubricant. Temperature rise in the drawn wire between the die and isolator, during ultrasonic radiation, occurs at discreet points along the wire at intervals of approximately 5 inches. It appears that the points of maximum heating correspond to the antinodal points of a stationary acoustic wave. Author
