Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to investigate, design and fabricate miniature dc-dc converters which would meet satellite and rocket environmental conditions. The objective was to develop a general procedure to be followed in the design of low power voltage step down converters, the primary concern being that of maximum efficiency. A 28-12 volt, 1.5 watt, 80 efficient unit was to be designed, fabricated and tested using the developed procedure. The effort was divided into three major areas of study the transistor or switch, the transformer, and, the remaining circuitry. In addition to the development of a general design procedure for miniature dc-dc converters, a 28-12 volt, 1.5 watt unit with better than 85 efficiency was achieved. Author
