Abstract:

Thirty-five individual days of recorded phase differences were selected at random and compared with predictions obtained from present diurnal theory using present phase velocities. The average resultant rms discrepancy was 10.4 cels an abbreviation for centilanes, corresponding to per cent of cycle. This implies a 24-hour navigation capability of about 1 nautical mile c.e.p. assuming geometry expected in a worldwide operational system, but using only present radiated power and prediction ability.
