Abstract:

The purpose of the paper is to present a new technique for the study of propagation through inhomogeneous and random media, based upon an invariance principle which is called the principle of invariant imbedding. As an application, consideration is given to the problem of the scattering of light by an inhomogeneous medium of finite depth. The corresponding problem for homogeneous media was treated by Ambarzumian and Chandrasekhar. Author
