Spectral analysis of CdSe powders, purified by sublimation, shows some improvement, but probably purer material can be obtained by improving the condition under which the material is prepared and by more careful handling of the material. A small amount of CdSe was prepared by synthesizing it from very pure Cd and Se. The same comments apply for this method as for the sublimation. Experiments with ZnSe did not show good sintering. Oxide impurities in the powder are suspected and purification by the sublimation method is being prepared. Work was started in developing a better deposition method for the PC layer. Several series of experiments for the preparation of PC powders were made, but sensitivities obtained by the described method are still many orders of magnitude lower than required. Regarding EL films, improvements in tin oxide coating and in the preparation of larger size 6 in. x 6in panels were made. Some small size image intensifiers were made by depositing highly sensitive PC powder on EL films. Gains around unity were measured. Author
