The relaxation time associated with the spin-flopping transition in CuC12. 2H2O has been measured by an r. f. susceptibility technique and found to be 0. 70 0. 15 x10 to the minus 7th power seconds at 2.4K. We believe this to be the first such measurement on an order-order transition. Our preliminary measurements also yield the temperature dependence of the critical field, H sub c, in good agreement with previous data. Some otherwise strange observations have been qualitatively explained by a temperature rise due to the dissipation of energy in the crystal through the resistive component of the critical field susceptibility. These effects become more pronounced with increasing power which is consistent with their being of thermal origin. Author
