This report summarizes results obtained for a pairwise coupling in uniform systems, b multimode coupling in uniform systems, and c nonuniform systems. The work on pairwise coupling in uniform systems is intended to pull together the existing body of theory of such systems, and to systematize this theory. In multimode coupling, it is recognized that the principal problem is the categorization of the various possible situations. A basis for doing this has been found in the theory of Lie algebras. It is possible to use this theory to diagram the couplings involved. Several interesting results are obtained in the development of a statistical coupled mode theory. Among nonuniform systems, the class for which the derivative of the system operator is expressible as the commutator of the system operator with another operator is studied. A number of important results are obtained.
