Abstract:

Effort was directed towards design of a hot gas heater, detail design of test section components, procurement of materials, and hardware fabrication. The hot gas heater design makes possible step increases of pressure and temperature to both the transient and steady-state heat transfer test sections using clean hot gaseous nitrogen. Heater fabrication is nearly finished and final assembly is underway. All test section designs are now complete. All components are fabricated except those purposefully held back pending system checkout and analysis of initial experimental results. The overall objective of the investigation is to gather experimental data and develop a theoretical analysis for the heat transfer characteristics of hot gas flow from both head-end and aft-end igniters in solid propellant motor systems.
