Abstract:

Exact, closed form solutions are presented for a doublysymmetric, noncircular, deep ring subjected to a doublysymmetric but otherwise arbitrary distributed circumferential load. Calculations of displacements and bending moments have been carried out for major-minor axis ratios ba 1.00, 1.10, 1.30, 1.50, rigidity parameter sq k 0.001, and circumferential loading applied above, on, and below the ring center line. The results show that the radial displace ment for each harmonic of loading and the total circumferential displacement are effectively independent of the crosssectional area of the ring A but are dependent on the moment of inertia I, while the bending moments are effectively independent of all cross-sectional properties. Moreover, the effect of applying the load off the center line of the ring is shown to be significant. Author
