Abstract:

The report contains the results of microscopical examinations of phytoplankton samples collected from Oregon and Washington coastal waters during Brown Bear cruise 275, January, 1961. Phytoplankton concentrations were correlated with physical, chemical, and other biological parameters to determine factors controlling the size and distribution of the phytoplankton population. Factors believed to be of importance were photosynthesis and respiration, stability of the water column, grazing by zooplankton, and sinking of phytoplankton. Author
