Abstract:

The report discusses an investigation of ultrasonic cooling techniques. Natural and forced convective cooling parameters were measured, with and without the application of ultrasonic agitation. It was experimentally determined that application of the technique resulted in as much as a threefold improvement in heat transfer. Comparisons of the effectiveness of the various modes of agitation were drawn. The heat transferred increases with increase in vibrational frequency. Conclusions concerning the potential worth of the technique, as applied to electronic equipment, are included in the report. One possible application is in the area of high power tubes, where a possible increase in lifetime, or increased power output, may be obtained. Author
