Iodine I fluorosulfate IOSO2F and tri-iodine fluorosulfate I3OSO2F were prepared by the reaction of iodine with peroxydisulfuryl difluoride S2O6F2. Their solutions in fluorosulfuric acid have the colors and spectra character istic of the I and I3 ions, respectively. Dichlorofluorosulfatoiodine IC12OSO2F was produced from chlorine and IOSO2F. Iodine III fluorosulfate decomposes slowly when under vacuum at about 80 degrees to 90 degrees to give iodine I fluorosulfate, which remains with the unreacted IOSO2F3, and the volatile products SO3, IF3OSO2F2 and an unidentified substance which may be IOSO2F5.
