Abstract:

Belotserkovskiis integral method of analyzing the flow field behind the curved shock about a blunt body is extended to cover cases of 1 arbitrary blunt body in two-dimensional or axisymmetric flow, and 2 real gas in thermodynamic equilibrium. Detailed derivation is given for the simple case of linear interpolation. Extension to third order interpolation is also treated with a different but simpler scheme in that the shock layer is not subdivided into strips as in the original work of Belotserkovskii. The resulting differential system for the high order analysis consists of only three total differential equations, two of which are of the second order. Numerical results are presented on the basis of the first order theory for flow field about spherical and ellipsoidal noses. Shock detachment distances obtained for the spherical nose are consistent with those obtained by using the Gravalos method. Significant differences exist between the results of real gas and those of perfect gas analyses. Author
