Abstract:
Isopentenyl pyrophosphate is incorporated into rubber by latex from Hevea brasiliensis in the presence of Mg ions. By removal of the isopentenylpyrophosphate isomerase from latex it was shown, that dimethylallyl pyrophosphate is necessary as a primer for the rubber biosynthesis. Hence, the formation of the rubber molecule is a de novo synthesis. The polymerase is Mg dependent and is inhibited by SHpoisons, as could be shown with latex freed from isopentenylpyrophosphate isomerase. Author
