Abstract:
A number of nuclear models have been explored during recent years in attempting to explain the energy levels of the nuclide Fe 57 but none of these can be fitted to the experimental data with really significant precision. Another possible nuclear model, in which the low-lying excited energy levels are formed from coupling the last odd neutron of Fe 57 to the quadrupole vibrational state of the remaining core of nucleons, a core-excited state model, is discussed in this paper. Although some aspects of the physical properties of Fe 57 appear to fit such a model, the relative number of such agreements are not significantly greater than for other models. Author
