This report discusses the applicability of various electrohydraulic servo valve and servo actuator configurations for use in digital flight control systems. The research and de velopmental effort was conducted in five phases Initial research and analysis, interface study, choice of experimental model configuration, experimental model design analysis, and experimental model physical design and evaluation. During the initial research and analysis phase, three servo actuator configurations capable of response to serial digital information and one servo actuator configuration capable of response to parallel digital information were investigated. The configurations responsive to serial digital information were termed incremental servo actuators and operated essentially in a bangbang mode during each actuation cycle. The configurations responsive to parallel digital information were termed parallel binary servo actuators PBSA. The PBSA configuration discussed in this report is an analog servo actuator configuration utilizing a multicoil torque motor for binary weighting and summation operations. Author
