Abstract:
This study is concerned with the optimal control of systems whose dynamics are represented by n first order differential equations. The systems are linear and deterministic. The performance indices considered are 1 the mean squared error, 2 the regulator problem, and 3 the minimum time problem. Pontryagins maximum principle is used to derive the optimization equations for each of the above problems. The general theory is illustrated by various first and second order examples. A short discussion of the problem of stability and singular control is included. Author
