Abstract:

An experiment was performed to verify the authors new concept that a two-section transformer may be designed in which the length of each section is less than a quarter wave length and may be treated as an independent variable. A two-section J-band waveguide transformer, having an arbitrarily chosen total length of one-fifth of a guide wavelength, was designed to match a 41 impedance mismatch at 5500 Mc. The design procedure is described in detail, including corrections for capacitive reactances introduced by each step discontinuity in the waveguide.
