Abstract:

An apparatus for melting conducting materials by the use of electromagnetic levitation is described. This technique eliminates the problem of crucible contamination. A brief phenomenological explanation of the process is presented along with some design information for the fabrication of levitation coils. A detailed description of the apparatus is included together with information on several materials which have been successfully prepared using it. Author
