Abstract:

The prime purpose of this study was to develop a system of classification of inertial navigation sensors that will aid in the prediction of performance. During this quarter, the system previously developed was tested by means of a quantum mechanical and a classical model. A study of the problem of classification and performance criteria for all sensors is described. An improved classification system for inertial navigation sensors is presented. The new scheme groups known theoretical physical systems by means of analytical constructs from which it is possible to derive design information and to predict performance for real sensors. In addition the results of our model studies provide quantitative limits on the precision achievable from inertial navigation sensors employing boundelectron and discrete particle beam phenomena.
