Abstract:
This report discusses a C-130 flight loads program conducted to obtain, process, and analyze data of three in-flight variables--normal acceleration at the aircrafts center of gravity, altitude, and airspeed. From four C-130 models--C130A, C-130B, JC-130, and HC-130G--8155 hours of usable data were acquired. The aircraft operated from six bases located in the Pacific, the Continental United States, and Europe. Presented in this report are a history of the data recording and discussions of the techniques for data recording, processing, and analyzing. None of the models yielded any data exceeding the design limit load factors. The various air base locations appreciably affected the gust spectra. In the lower load factor range of the C-130A and C-130B data, the gust spectrum was more severe than the maneuver spectrum.
