Abstract:
Carbon blacks from twenty statistically-designed runs on the 14R furnace have been evaluated in organic depolarized dry cells. Extensive data are also presented on physical and chemical characteristics of the experimental blacks. Initial service life of A-size cells discharged continuously through 16-23 ohms resistance to an end voltage of 0.9V ranged from about 22 to 27 hours. No single furnace variable studied was able to bring about changes in the carbon blacks produced which significantly improved the performance of organic cells containing the various carbon blacks. However, two interactions were found to be significant. Author
