Abstract:

The effects of gas and cryosurface temperature on the capture coefficient of six gases are discussed. The gas temperature effect is interpreted by the critical velocity model, and the cryosurface temperature effect is qualitatively explained by the potential field model. The possible error involved when these results are extrapolated to higher gas temperatures is also discussed. Experimental results are presented for the cryopumping rates of nitrogen, argon, carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide, oxygen, and carbon dioxide over 10 to 25 K cryosurfaces and a gas temperature range of from 77 to 400 K.
