Abstract:

A calculation and a comparison is made between the capabilities of a linear array of infrared detectors and those of an infrared vidicon for detecting high-altitude satellites from a satellite sensor platform. It is shown that far smaller optics diameter is required for the vidicon sensor to achieve the same range as the linear array or alternatively the vidicon range is far greater.
