A Method of Reducing the Mass of Penetrating Warheads

A method of reducing the mass of a concrete-penetrating weapon by use of an elongated solid nose is presented, giving a mass reduction of 75 in the case considered when compared with a conventionally shaped warhead. The effect of varying the impact velocity is also discussed. The technique is not necessarily applicable to all penetrating weapons, or to all targets. Each particular case has to be considered separately, since there is no general rule.
