Abstract:
New species such as ClF5O, ClF3O2, and BrF7 were sought via glow discharge and high-temperaturehigh-pressure fluorinations. These syntheses were unsuccessful with covalent, anionic, or cationic precursors. High-pressure fluorination techniques also failed to give OF3, ArF, ClF6, and BrF6 salts. New syntheses of SOF4, ClSO2F, and ClOSO2F were developed using ClF as a reactant. Structural investigations of a number of anionic and cationic bromine fluoride complexes were initiated. Data relevant to the synthesis and characterization of ClF3O have been summarized. Author
