Abstract:
The phenomenon of secondary electron emission is examined with regard to the production of thermal images utilizing radiation in the region from 8 to 13 microns--at an atmospheric window. From a study of the lattice vibrations of certain dielectrics, under infrared irradiation at residual ray frequencies, it is expected that a detectable thermal image can be found utilizing secondary electron emission. A design of an image tube is proposed using an emission-controlled surface employing the monoscope principle.
