An initial study has been made of the effect on the visibility of underwater objects as seen by a diver working under water, of placing optical filters in either the diving lamp or the diving helmet. It appears to be quite conclusive that filters capable of transmitting the orange or yellow wavelengths of visible radiation improve the visibility of the submerged objects.
