Abstract:

Screening studies were continued on methods for field testing of the propellants N2H4UDMH, N2O4NO and gelled N2H4Al. Specific attention was given to the following 1 vapor pressure measurements of N2O4NO, 2 colorimetric characterizations of N2O4NO, 3 coulometric determination of N2H4UDMH, 4 thin layer chromatography of N2H4UDHM derivatives, 5 the determination of water in AlN2H4 gel, 6 the characterization of AlN2H4 gels by electrochemical conductivity correlations, and 7 colorimetric determinations for N2H4Al gel. As a result of the work carried out those methods which show reasonable promise of field utility and merit further consideration on the basis of the screening studies are 1 vapor pressure measurements of N2O4NO, 2 reaction of N2O4NO with oxygen, 3 the calcium hydride-water reaction to determine water in N2H4UDMH and N2H4Al gel, and 4 the coulometric titration of N2H4UDMH.
