A method of designing a ring-airfoil, used as a performance improving device in a conical diffuser, derived from experimental results is reported. The applicable ranges of diffuser wall length to inlet radius, LR and the angle of divergence, 2 phi sub d, are 4 or LR sub 1 or 6 and 14 deg or 2 phi sub d or 22 deg respectively. With a properly installed ring-airfoil, the diffuser pressure recovery efficiency may be maintained at 75 or higher throughout the above mentioned range, while performance of diffusers in this range without the ring airfoil lies between 50 - 70.
