Abstract:

To date the application of subcooled hydrogen has been directed towards specific vehicle systems. The use of hydrogen in its subcooled state, however, should be considered for any system anticipating the need for hydrogen. This report presents information on the desirability of using subcooled or slush hydrogen in a number of general cases. With this information, the system planner can choose those characteristics which suit the vehicle under consideration and can determine whether the primary effort should be directed toward the application of subcooled hydrogen or liquid hydrogen. Ground handling of subcooled hydrogen is considered as well as the on-board considerations. Author
