This report discusses the second quarter efforts of a program to investigate, design, develop, and evaluate a solid state switching concept for the main XC-142 aircraft. The proposed system will utilize solid state devices in place of make-and-break contacts in all of the functions required in the system, i.e., position sensing, control logic, and control of power to the indicators. This program is divided into three phases theoretical analysis and laboratory model evaluation component development and airplane hardware modifications, installation and test. Phase one which involved the studies, investigations, and breadboard evaluation necessary to define the requirements for the position sensors, indicator driver, and indicator control unit was completed during this quarter. Dimming concepts were evaluated and a circuit for the indicator driver was breadboarded and tested.
