Abstract:

The 320 kv system has been checked out and those sections necessary for the pilot experiment have been made fully operational. Two successful full system bakeouts have been carried out and the feedthrough bushing conditioned up to 300 kv. Modifications have been made to the design of this unit and also to the control circuit of the Van de Graaff high voltage generator. The final design was completed and selection made of the order for the 32 experiments in the pilot program. Finally, preliminary experiments have been carried out to check the performance of the 320 kv system and to evaluate the relative merits of conditioning at small and large gaps. Author
