Abstract:
This report contains results obtained from a study of the color forming reaction of amine salts of 1,3-diisonitroso- acetone and p-toluenesulfonyl chloride. Information on the configuration of DIA is presented. The usual preparation of 1,3- diisonitrosoacetone yields primarily the symmetrical syn-syn isomer. Evidence based on high-resolution NMR spectra is presented for the formation of a second isomer in amounts of 5. A study of the color forming reaction resulted in isolation of a crystalline, stable, dark red violet colored compound. Analytical data for this compound are presented. Some reactions of the colored compound are reported. Evidence for a radical mechanism in the formation of this compound is presented. The results of the reactions of acyl halides, acid anhydrides, and alpha-haloethyl acetate with Braun-Mosher Reagent are presented. Alpha-Halo ethyl acetate undergoes an alkylation reaction with the hydrazone to yield the dialkylated reagent. Author
