Abstract:
This abstract summarizes data concerning the sythesis chemical structure of high energy oxidizers which are included in this report. Low- temperature glow discharge of a mixture of NF3, F2, and AsF5 results in the adduct, tetrafluoronitroniumV hexafluoroarsenateV, NF4AsF6-. The white crystalline solid is the first known derivative of the hypothetical NF5. It is stable and involatile at 25 degrees and decomposes exothermally at temperatures greater than 270 degrees. It is very hygroscopic and hydrolyzes to a pale blue solution. The X-ray powder diffraction pattern can be indexed in the tetragonal system. Indications are that the structure is similar to that found for PCl4 PCl6-. Elemental and mass spectroscopic analyses indicate the 111 combining ratio of NF3, F2, and AsF5. Vibrational spectroscopy infrared and Raman and F19 magnetic resonance measurements confirm the structure, NF4AsF6-. The difluorochlorates of cesium, rubidium, and potassium were successfully prepared by the reaction of the corresponding fluorides with chlorine monofluoride or NOClF2-.
