Abstract:

This report describes the design, fabrication and testing of an antiricochet nose adapter for the M117, 750-lb General Purpose Bomb. The adapters give an increased antiricochet capability for delivery of the the M117 bomb. Analyses of the penetration and ricochet characteristics of the bomb with adapter and bomb without adapter were performed. An analysis of the deformation of the adapter under impact conditions was made. Eighteen prototype adapters of five different designs were fabricated.
